Should I get Winter Tyres or Snow Socks? Answer revealed.

We hear this all the time in the winter: "Its going to snow, I need a 4x4 to get around." However for those of us who know, the right kind of tyres is really more important that anything else.

A video from UK's AutoExpress puts this theory to the test to prove how true that is. They get two identical cars, one with two wheel drive and one with all wheel drive and they see which one is better at powering up a snowy slope.

With summer tyres fitted to both cars, the two wheel drive car doesn't make it very far up the hill, and the all wheel drive car doesn't do much better despite having twice the potential grip. However when equipped with winter tyres, the two wheel drive obliterates the all wheel drive car that are still using summer tyres.

So this video is excellent proof that splashing out for a 4x4 for the winter isn't necessarily the best or safest thing to do. Instead, invest in the right grip. If storing the winter tyres in the summer is going to be a problem, another great and cheaper option are snow socks.

Snow socks are quite new technology. As the name suggests, you pull the sock over the wheels. Unlike conventional snow chains, the socks have no metal or moving parts. This means noise is kept to a minimum and your original tyres are kept in good condition.

Manufactures suggest that its best to only use snow socks for vital journeys rather than having them fitted for the entire winter period.

The New Honda CR-V launches

On October 25th 2012 Honda launched it's latest CR-V. Customers of the Littlewick Green Motor Company were invited to come and see the new look CR-Vs for themselves, speak to Honda representatives and enjoy a little Honda hospitality.

The event, which was held at our Maidenhead Honda showroom, was attended by around 40 existing customers who were all impressed by the latest enhancements and look of the new vehicle. Every part – no matter how large or small – has been thought about, improved and perfected. The result is more space, more advanced technology, more refinement and more fuel efficiency than ever before.

Maidenhead Honda on the ball

Four-figure help for nearby cricket club

LITTLEWICK Green Cricket Club’s chairman David Horne shook hands on a four-figure sponsorship deal with Maidenhead Honda, based at the nearby Littlewick Green Service Station on Friday. This marks the family-owned business’s third year of support for its local club. Ian Govier, dealer principal at Maidenhead Honda, said “We are proud to be entering our third year of sponsorship with Littlewick Green Cricket Club and happy to continue our support of the local team. We are currently in discussion to extend the sponsorship at the end of the year for a further two years.”

David Horne, said: “The club is delighted to continue its successful relationship with Littlewick Green Motor Company for another year. “Previous years’ generous sponsorship has allowed us to provide additional coaching from highly qualified professionals, and to provide additional equipment and facilities, such as an extra practice net. These improved facilities have been particularly targeted at our junior section, which now attracts over 70 children, between the ages of six and 15, to the club for practice sessions and matches

every week.”

As the first signs go up....

On July 2^nd 2012 Littlewick Green Motor Company will officially open its newest branch in Swindon. The new premises, in Kennedy Drive, Swindon, will showcase commercial vehicles from Chinese manufacturers Great Wall (pick-ups) and DFSK (mini vans) and the latest retail offerings from Korea’s SsangYong.

As well as new and used car sales the Swindon branch will be offering all the usual services you would expect from Littlewick Green Motor Company – servicing, parts, aftersales, and valeting for all makes, models and ages of car.

Having been established as an experienced and reliable company in Maidenhead and surrounding areas for 50 years, Littlewick Green Motor Company are confident they can bring their expertise for caring to the Swindon area. For example, the new branch shortly hopes to become a Mazda specialist with the recent recruitment of a trained Mazda technician – more details to follow.

Littlewick Green Great Wall hands over it's first Steed

Well, despite it being one of the wettest Mays in recent history the new Great Wall franchise at the Littlewick Green Motor Company (LGMC) still managed to put a smile on someone's face. In early May Mr. Daniel Meaden was the first LGMC customer to be handed the keys to his brand new Steed.

With our new dealership at Maidenhead still in it's infancy staff there decided the best way to raise awareness was to put the cars out there. So on Monday 27th February one Alto, one Splash and one Swift, all sign written with the latest VAT free offers, were parked up in the middle of Windsor’s King Edward Court Shopping Centre.
